An Enhanced DBS check will need to be completed for all people in a 'Regulated Activity'.
Regulated Activity is defined as:
"To involve contact with children or vulnerable adults", and will be for a specified nature e.g. teaching, training, care, supervision, advice, treatment or transport.
Or
In a specified place e.g. schools, children's homes & hospitals, juvenile detention facilities, adult care homes and frequently, intensively and/or overnight care once a month Or Three or more occasions in a period of 30 days Or Overnight: between 2 - 6am.
An Enhanced DBS check contains spent and unspent convictions, final warnings, and reprimands from the Police National Computer (PNC), and information that the local police force considers to be relevant for the position the applicant is applying for.
This DBS Certificate contains the same as a normal Enhanced check, as well as an additional check of the Children's and/or Adult's Barred List and is designed for those who will be working with vulnerable groups (Children and/or Vulnerable Adults) or the positions listed in the Criminal Records regulations.
Some examples of jobs which require this check are: Teachers, Taxi Drivers, Personal Carers and Personal Drivers.
The role of the individual will decide which check is needed. If the individual is directly working with vulnerable children/adults, then they would need an Enhanced DBS check. But if they are only indirectly working with them, then only a Standard DBS check would be needed.
